Aaron Rodgers Not Exactly Mourning Tony Kornheiser’s Departure From The MNF Booth
Think back, if you dare, to Tony Kornheiser’s tenure as a Monday Night Football announcer. The manic repetition of obvious game storylines. The forced incredulity in reaction to nearly every single game development. The bizarre notion that the audience should pretend that it is entirely composed of sportswriters and that they should all be prepping their “column” throughout the game. The Favre. Oh, the constant Favre namedropping.↵↵It was a dark, dark period for football on television. Usually when fans have a gripe with something on a football broadcast, we’re chiding them for being ungrateful little peasants. But in this case there is support among the players. Well, at least one of them. Aaron Rodgers, appearing on ESPN Radio Milwaukee, lambasted Kornheiser for his stint as an announcer.↵
↵↵⇥You know who was better than Tony Kornheiser? Dennis Miller was ten times better. Dennis Miller was a great comedian, but one of the worst Monday Night Football guys ever. And he was ten times better than Tony Kornheiser. His stuff was actually funny. Tony’s stuff wasnt funny at all. He did no research. We’d sit in those production meetings and he would add absolutely nothing to the conversation. I’d be like, What are we doing here? This is stupid. You get in there with Tony and he’s asking you all these dumb questions that have no application to the game you are playing or anything you are doing. He’s terrible. I dont think he’s funny. I dont think he’s insightful. I dont think he knows anything about sports.↵↵↵The fervor fueling Rodger’s enmity might have something to do with the fact that Kornheiser was an announcer the year after Brett Favre left the Packers. TK, of course, would use any excuse possible to mention Favre. When the Packers played on Monday Night that year, Tony needed little pretext. Every action could be likened to Favre in some way. No doubt Rodgers didn’t appreciate even more comparisons to his predecessor being heaped upon him.↵

↵At the risk of editorializing excessively on the subject, Aaron Rodgers is 100 percent correct. While it might be a little harsh to argue TK knows nothing about sports, you wouldn't be blamed for getting that impression based solely on his performance in the MNF booth. Kornheiser might be capable of occasional insight in other venues, but on Monday nights he turned himself into an obnoxious cartoon of his abrasive persona for ESPN.↵
↵↵That said, Jon Gruden, Kornheiser’s replacement, might display more knowledge of the game during his commentary, but he’s at lack for horrible shtick himself. THIS GUY, I’m gonna call him the THE LABELER, because he attaches pointless nicknames to everyone.↵
