Memorable Game 4 Fan More Accustomed To Carrying Fake Head Than Rooting On The Flyers

Much as he did with the story of how the shark was thrown on the ice in San Jose last month, Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshynski did some digging to get the skinny on the frightening Flyers fan who was spotted by the Versus broadcast of Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals celebrating a Philly goal by swinging around a decapitated Indian head impaled on a knife.

↵↵Turns out that the man, Jim Melchionna of Turnersville, NJ, isn’t much of a Flyers fan so much as he is a backer of Philadelphia sports (even if he claims to have been a Devils fan when he was a kid). Primarily, he saves the severed Indian head for trips to Lincoln Financial Field when the Eagles play the division rival Redskins. When his friend scored tickets to Game 4 and invited him, the association just clicked. Another team with an image of a Native American’s head as a logo. Fetch me my mannequin head!↵

↵Of course, one has to figure that any costume involving a murderous implement in any capacity is going to attract the attention of security. Melchionna is able to deflect their concerns with ease.↵

↵↵⇥“Sometimes I have a hard time getting it into the Linc [for Eagles games] with the security guards. So I’ll take the knife out of its head, show’em it’s plastic and then stick it back in,” said Jim, a loving father who works for PSEG at a nuclear plant.↵↵↵Not only was he able to get in the building with it, but he got in a bit of trash talk with the owner of the Blackhawks while on the concourse. He might not be the most dedicated Flyers fan in the world, but he had an experience that any other one would envy.↵
