↵World Cup madness has gripped soccer fans across the globe. As with any major sporting event, fans will use the occasion to party, which probably means indulging in some less than ideal dietary choices. But it doesn’t have to be that way, so says the friendly folks in government who only have our best interests at heart.↵
London’s World Cup Healthy Eating Guide Is Money Well Spent
↵↵Officials in the London city government saw fit to issue a four-page guide on healthy eating during the World Cup to citizens. Unfortunately, rather than accepts the banal pearls of common sense, some are decrying the guide as a pointless and laughable waste of taxpayer money.↵
↵↵But why? Just look at some of these handy tips:↵
↵↵⇥If you’re planning a barbie, don’t forget that ‘regardless of how well your team is doing on the field, food poisoning could really spoil the fun’.↵↵
↵
↵
↵↵I agree. Food poisoning is the worst! Some people try to say otherwise, but who are they kidding? You should maybe try to avoid it.↵
↵↵⇥The Food Standards Agency warns: ‘Football and beer often go hand-in-hand, but it can be easy to overindulge. If you do drink, have no more than one or two units of alcohol twice a week and don’t get drunk.↵↵
↵↵⇥If you must eat fish and chips, remember to leave the batter. Better still, go for a piece of skinless, grilled chicken with steamed rice.↵↵↵Basically, if you must eat fish and chips, don’t eat fish and chips.↵
↵↵Okay, maybe I’m being a little harsh on the FSA folks. Making suggestions for healthy eating without straying into lecturing can be difficult, though whoever produced the pamphlet could have been a little less patronizing. However it’s not like my tax money was spent on this or anything. And since the dreaded England team takes on the U.S. squad on Saturday, I should want to see all manner of misfortune, no matter how trivial, befall the Brits. Except food poisoning. No one should have to go through that. The worst!↵
