San Jose Sharks defenseman Rob Blake has decided to hang up the skates after 21 seasons of NHL hockey. Blake has played for three different teams including the Colorado Avalanche, where he won his only Stanley Cup in 2001.

The source said that Blake is waiting until the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Finals because he did not want to be a distraction while the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers are still playing.
An official announcement could come as early as next week. When contacted by Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, the Sharks declined to comment on the story. Comcast SportsNet Bay Area also reached out to Blake but he has not returned calls.
Blake was still playing a pivotal role for the Sharks this season, including serving as their captain for a period this season. He had thirty points in the regular season and had another two in the postseason.
