Eric Hosmer, United States Blow By World Team In Futures Game

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Eric Hosmer went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, leading the U.S. Futures team to a 9-1 rout of the World Futures team in the annual matchup.

Hosmer, 20, was the third overall pick of the 2008 draft by the Kansas City Royals and projects as a power-hitting first baseman. Hank Conger, an Angels catching prospect and the game's MVP, added a three-run homer for the hometown crowd, as the 2010 All-Star festivities officially got underway.

Jeremy Hellickson, one of the majors' top pitching prospects for the Rays, threw the first two innings, earning the win after giving up a run on two hits while fanning one.

Carlos Peguero, a Seattle prospect, went 2-for-4 and scored the lone run for the World team, while Eury Perez of the Washington organization also added two hits in defeat.

Simon Castro of San Diego received the loss after yielding two runs on two hits and a walk in the opening inning.

Domonic Brown, who could take over a starting spot in the Phillies' outfield sometime this season, opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI infield single.

Hosmer added an RBI single in the same inning, although the World team got one back on Wilin Rosario's RBI fielder's choice groundout in the second.

Conger's home run in the fifth off Henderson Alvarez gave the U.S. a comfortable 5-1 cushion, and Grant Green of Oakland singled in another run in the sixth.

Cleveland's Lonnie Chisenhall added an RBI groundout in the eighth for a 7-1 margin. Hosmer and Austin Romine, a Yankees catching prospect, each added an RBI double later in the inning to account for the final margin.
