Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone Finally Rematch At WEC 51

Sherdog with the big news:

As far as rematches go, this one has been about a year-and-a-half in the making.
The long awaited second showdown between Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner is in the works for the not-yet-announced WEC 51 on Sept. 30 at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo.
Sherdog.com has learned that at least one of the top-ranked lightweights has verbally agreed to the bout, according to sources in the fighter’s camp.

In the initial bout Varner was dominating the early part of the fight before Cerrone began to turn the tables late in the fight. In the fifth round Cerrone landed a clearly illegal knee that caused vision problems for Varner and ended the fight. Due to the fight ending on an accidental foul the fight went to the scorecards where Varner won a split decision.

Many fans felt that Varner was looking for an excuse to get out of the fight and played up the damage from the knee and even the revelation that he had a lesion on his eye and blurry vision for a month and a half did nothing to quiet the nonsense from that segment of fans.

Now it appears we’ll have all the lingering questions answered on September 30.
