Beer Snakes Deemed Too Dangerous To Live By CFL Team

↵
↵Perhaps it’s overstimulation drawn from the newfound exposure via the NFL Network or maybe Canadian Football League fans have always been this rowdy and outsiders didn’t cotton onto it. Either way, there have been some decidedly weird antics seen early in the current CFL season. Already, the league has been placed in the disconcerting position of having to deal with a wheelchair bound fan rushing the playing field during a game, a situation they don’t exactly prep security for in event management seminars.↵↵Now one team, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, has been forced to ban “beer snakes,” immense stacks of beer cups that can reach even hundreds of feet in length, from being formed in the stands.↵

↵↵⇥As a result of several minor injuries at last Friday’s home game against the Toronto Argonauts, the Canadian Football League organization has issued a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to fan behaviour at Blue Bombers games. ↵⇥↵⇥The injuries were suffered when the beer snake fell apart near the end of the game, showering many of the fans not involved. Fans also threw beer cups, hitting some fans and spilling their contents on others. ↵⇥As a result, excessive drinking and unruly and/or illegal behaviour will result in ejection or prosecution of the offender. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥“Whether it be plastic or steel, it is a weapon,” Bombers president Jim Bell said on Wednesday. “And it can be harmful to the public. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥“If we allow it to continue and somebody gets seriously injured -- if that beer snake starts making its way to the upper grandstand and somebody leans over, that could be an awful, awful situation.”↵⇥

↵↵↵It may out me as an incredibly sheltered innocent, but I can’t recall ever seeing a beer snake live or on the broadcast of a sporting event. Kudos to the CFL being proactive in tamping down on it. Should it have lasted long enough, it could infect football fans south of the border in a Bros Icing Bros like wave of faddish, fratty behavior. Then again, I doubt NFL security would be lax enough to even allow to snake to reach full length.↵
