Matt Wieters Placed On DL With Hamstring Injury

Stud backstop prospect Matt Wieters missed the last two games of the first half after injuring and re-aggravating his hamstring. It isn't believed to be a major injury, but he's still going to get a stint on the disabled list:

The Orioles will place catcher Matt Wieters on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Wieters hasn't played since July 9.

He'll be able to eligible to return from the DL on July 25.

The Orioles haven't announced a corresponding move but it's expected that they'll start Craig Tatum at catcher, use Jake Fox as his primary backup and then call up a position player. Third baseman Josh Bell is one of the top candidates.

Wieters hasn't yet delivered on his promise, as he currently owns a .672 OPS over 300 trips to the plate. Certainly, though, he remains the Orioles' most prized young player going forward, and is a good bet for great success in the very near future. Check out more over at O's blog Camden Chat.
