MMA Mania breaks the news:
Bobby Lashley Takes On Chad Griggs At Strikeforce: Houston
Strikeforce heavyweight attraction Bobby Lashley (5-0) will return to the world of cagefighting after a brief stint on the injured reserves when he takes on IFL and Rage in the Cage veteran Chad Griggs (8-1) at the upcoming Aug. 21 “Houston” event from the Toyota Center live on Showtime.
MMAmania.com confirmed the pending match-up earlier today.
This is yet another example of Bobby Lashley’s lack of career progression. Griggs is a guy who has a nice looking record but he has one fight in the last three years and will be coming in to this bout without a fight in roughly 16 months. His last fight was a win over a guy making his pro debut. It’s just not the kind of guy who is going to help Lashley grow as a fighter and honestly it’s a bad fight in that if Bobby loses he loses to someone with no real value.
It’s a very, very disappointing turn of events and judging by the Strikeforce talk his next fight will be against former WWE star Dave Batista, a 41 year old with no MMA experience.
At this point it’s hard to consider Lashley’s career as anything more than a joke.
