Reports out of England have current U.S. Men’s National Team coach Bob Bradley no longer in contention to replace Roy Hodgson at Fulham. Those same reports, however, have Bradley still in the picture to remain as boss of the national team.
Report: Bob Bradley Out Of Contention For Fulham Job, Still In Picture For U.S. National Team
Fulham, in need of a new manager after Roy Hodgson left to take the post at Liverpool, is said to have narrowed their list to Sven-Goran Eriksson and Martin Jol. Eriksson, the former England national team boss and manager at Manchester City, is set to move-on from his national team post with Cote d'Ivoire, while Martin Jol, late of Tottenham, is in charge at Ajax in the Netherlands.
Bradley, along with Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, had been in the picture at Craven Cottage until each man moved closer to maintaining his national team responsibilities. Hitzfeld has said he intends to retire in 2012, after the European Championships, while Bradley is under contract through December to the U.S., with the federation reported to have no desire to see him leave.
“Bob is under contract with US Soccer until the end of the year and discussions are ongoing,” a USSF spokesman said.
Bradley has been in charge of the U.S. since 2006, initially serving in an interim capacity after Germany 2006, taking on the position permanently on May 15, 2007. In his time with the team, the U.S. won the 2007 Gold Cup, finished first in CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, and earned a second place finish at the 2009 Confederations Cup. In South Africa, the United States won a group for the first time since 1930 before being eliminated by Ghana in the Round of 16.
Prior to joining the national team, Bradley served as head coach of three Major League Soccer franchises: the Chicago Fire, New York Red Bulls (previously, the MetroStars), and Chivas USA.
