Louis Oosthuizen Wins 2010 British Open In Decisive Fashion, Marks First PGA Tour Win

Louis Oosthuizen has won his first PGA Tour event, and it would be tough to achieve a more monumental first: a dominant, seven-stroke win in the 2010 British Open’s hallowed Old Course at St. Andrews.

Oosthuizen took the lead in Round 2 of the tournament and never led go, despite the threat posed in the latter half of the tournament by Paul Casey. Casey entered Round 4 with a deficit of four strokes, but a disastrous triple bogey at the 12th hole effectively took him out of the picture.

Oosthuizen, meanwhile, played consistently well throughout the entire tournament, committing only six bogeys while scoring 20 birdies and an eagle. He finished at 16-under.

Lee Westwood took advantage of Casey’s troubles at the 12th hole to sneak into second place at 9-under. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, finished tied for third. McIlroy tied a course record in Round 1 by shooting a 63, but collapsed in Round 2 with a score of 80. He recovered well and followed up with scores of 69 and 68.

Jin Jeong, an amateur, impressed the crowds at St. Andrews by shooting 4-under for the tournament, good for a tie for 14th place.

Tiger Woods stood near the top of the leaderboard at the end of Round 1, but hovered around par for the remainder of the the tournament. He finished in a tie for 23rd.

Here’s how the final leaderboard looks at the top:

1. Louis Oosthuizen (-16)
2. Lee Westwood (-9)
T3. Rory McIlroy (-8)
T3. Henrik Stenson
T3. Paul Casey
6. Retief Goosen (-7)
T7. Robert Rock (-6)
T7. Sean O’Hair
T7. Nick Watney
T7. Martin Kaymer
