Almost two months after he was arrested, prosecutors in Florida have filed felony battery charges against Miami Dolphins DE Phillip Merling.
Dolphins’ Phillip Merling Formally Charged With Felony Battery
The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Merling was arrested May 27 in Weston. When the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested him, they noted that he either knew or should have known the woman was pregnant.
Potential sentence: 15 years and a $10,000 fine, which seems laughably low (were this a laughing matter) for an NFL player.
And NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell can be expected to consider his own punishment under the personal conduct policy, which will likely cost Merling far more than the fine.
