Following an impressive 2008 campaign that resulted in the franchise's first playoff appearance in four years, the Atlanta Falcons were decidedly more pedestrian in 2009. Second-year quarterback Matt Ryan succumbed to the sophomore slump. Feature back Michael Turner was hurt for most of the latter part of the season. The defense was found to be rather lacking. After all was said and done, the Falcons missed the playoffs with a 9-7 record.

And, indeed, the Falcons are one of those teams that can fare very well, provided everything falls into place for them. But such calculated assessments don’t do well with the ticket-buying public.
