Lane Kiffin Makes People Mad: Titans Edition

Covering Lane Kiffin’s various and sundry public gaffes is growing into something of a cottage industry at this point, but the ire he’s drawing this week is emanating from several hours to the west of Knoxville. USC has hired Kennedy Pola away from coaching running backs in the Tennessee Titans organization to be the Trojans’ new offensive coordinator (although if Kiffin’s OC Jim Chaney’s experience at UT is any indication, that’s not much of a job), and all western parties are now being accused of something called malicious contract interference (neat!):

The lawsuit states “as a result of USC and Kiffin’s tortuous conduct, Tennessee (Titans) football has been damaged in an amount proven at trial.’’

According to the lawsuit, “USC and Kiffin maliciously intended to – and did – induce Pola to breach his contract with the Titans. The lawsuit alleges “USC and Kiffin engaged in improper means in their procedure of the breach and were not legally justified in their actions.’’To review, the prime quote from Fisher:

“I am very disappointed in Lane Kiffin’s approach to this,’’ Fisher said on Saturday. “Typically speaking when coaches are interested in hiring or discussing potential employment from coaches on respective staffs there is a courtesy call made from the head coach or athletic director indicating there is an interest in talking to the assistant.
“So I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism on behalf of Lane, to call me and leave me a voice mail after Kennedy had informed me he had taken the job. It is just a lack of professionalism.’’
And the Kiffykins rebuttal:

Once Kennedy did call back earlier today, out of my great respect for Coach Fisher I immediately reached out to Coach to make him aware of the situation. I have spoken with Coach Fisher and he now has an accurate understanding of the timeline of events.
“Accurate” may not necessarily imply “above-board,” but two questions remain: First, Can the Titans prove the team will be that damaged in the ground game while they still hold the rights to the fleet-limbed Chris Johnson? And second, in what scenario could Lane Kiffin ever get a fair trial in the state of Tennessee?
