Seattle’s Steve Zakuani Wins Major League Soccer Player Of The Week

Even if it wasn't a thin week on the Major League Soccer schedule, Steve Zakuani would have had a strong case for player of the week. That the league played only four matches made it that much easier or his performance to be recognized.

The winger, in the middle of a breakout season for Sounders FC, won Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week after scoring both goals in Seattle’s 2-1, Sunday win over Colorado.

The goals were Zakuani's six and seventh of the season, a total which passes Fredy Montero for the club's season high, tying him for the fourth-highest total in the league.

Zakuani is in his second season after being selected by Seattle first overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. In his season-and-a-half as a professional, Zakuani’s accumulated 12 goals.
