Jets Hop In On Terrell Owens Sweepstakes, Contact His Agent

After months of little Terrell Owens news, we’ve got the names of several teams who were or are currently interested.

First it was the Rams who were reportedly pursuing him. After they decided to bow out, the Bengals hopped in as the favorite to land him.

Now it’s the Jets who have expressed interest, according to ESPN.com.

The Jets have contacted Owens’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and have debated the idea of bringing the high-profile wide receiver to training camp.

A deal between the Jets and Owens still is considered a longshot; one person estimated the Jets’ chances at signing the high-profile wide receiver at “20 percent.”

The Jets have done a lot to upgrade their receiving corps trading for Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards in the last year.

The Jets decision to pursue T.O. doesn’t make a ton of sense until you realize Holmes will be suspended the first four games of the season. SB Nation’s Gang Green Nation weighs in:

I just can’t see it, sure we need someone to step in for the first four games, but are we willing to sign Owens with that knowledge. Would we cut him after that, because he’s not getting snaps over Edwards/Holmes or Cotchery. The last thing we need to give Sanchez is a disgruntled Owens, who will not hesitate to make a spectacle.

The Bengals reportedly have an offer on the table and expect an answer in 48 hours.
