All hail new Nationals pitching phenom Miguel Batista.
Nationals Get Shutout Win After Strasburg Scratched With Shoulder Inflammation
Maybe not. But the reliever came through for the Nats with five shutout innings against the Braves on Tuesday night after starter Stephen Strasburg was a late scratch because of an inability to get loose during warm-ups.
Batista picked up his first victory of the season, notching six strikeouts while allowing only three hits and a walk. A starter for most of his 16-year career, Batista has worked as a full-time reliever since posting a 4-14 record as a starter with the Mariners in 2008.
Three other Nats relievers, Sean Burnett, Drew Storen and Matt Capps, combined to pitch the other four shutout innings.
Strasburg underwent an x-ray and MRI, both of which showed no structural damage. He is listed as day-to-day with inflammation in the right shoulder.
