3 - It’s a magic number: The NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250 Review

I’m not sure how I will be able to compete with 4ever3’s article about Jr’s monumental win so I’m gonna focus on some other guys that this race was good for.

We didn’t see the big one, which doesn’t mean that the COT is to blame, it could just be that it’s too early in the stages to really have teams get a hold of the car.

Drafting and bump drafting still played a huge role in this race.

So other than the lack of a big one, this looked just like SuperSpeedway Racing.

The Big winner, other than Jr and the cash flow that Nascar will recieve for the Jr 3 win T-shirts that I’m sure are flying off the screen printers right now, is Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Stenhouse looked about to go for the win, but Logano never made his move. Not sure if this is the continuing trend that Logano has shown or if he just didn’t have anything for Jr.

Logano seems to only win when he’s got a huge lead. Joey is a little too nice of a racer as shown by his getting spun out by Keso, and Harvick this year. Logano has begun to talk big, but he hasn’t backed it up. Bump someone J-Slice. Bump and run, and I’ll start to believe that you’ll do anything to win.

Back to Ricky; Stenhouse finished a career best of 3rd.

It was a great race for the Roush Rookies, with Ickler posting a top 15 and Stenhouse was able to move the #6 Ford into 30th in points. Thus making ALL 5 Roush Fords locked into next week’s event. Now they’ve gotta keep them there.

Michael McDowell was the one who got bumped out.

I had hoped that there would not be any start and park cars, but lap 40 and 43 two cars quit with Electrical Problems. One was Morgan Shepherd, who very well could have parked it, the other was Mark Green, who is in deep deep trouble.

During Practice, Mark Green’s #49 team lost some weights from the car. Those weights then hit Reed Sorenson. Sorenson’s tire flew off his Toyota and came crashing down on Stephen Wallaces windshield. Thankfully the windshield held. Wallace said he thought he was gonna die.

Apparently when Green was preparing to take his first lap of the day and pulled off of pit road the vibration caused the weight to dislodge since the cap restraining the lead was not secured properly. The lead weighs 22-pounds and costs between $150-200. The tungsten weighs 35-pounds and costs $1,000 per brick. In the past, NASCAR has fined teams by the pound for similar infractions and after destroying the #66 and 32 cars, the pending penalties are expected to be sizeable.

Scary stuff.

In lighter news, it looks like NASCAR is at least considering limiting Cup drivers in Nationwide. From Brian France’s press conference Friday at Daytona:

After winning the Nationwide Series race Friday night, Earnhardt said he would never drive the #3 car again.

“I will never do it, I’ll never rethink it, I’ll never consider it,” Earnhardt Jr. said when asked of his future plans for he and the No. 3. “I think that it’s important for everybody to know that that’s as concrete as it gets. I’ll never do it again.” - Dave Rodman nascar.com

As I stated above, we have a new member of the Top 30 Club: Ricky Stenhouse. Also, If James Finch would start running the #1 car again, it wouldn’t take long for him to get back in. He won’t though.
