Kobayashi Freed From Jail After Hot Dog Contest Arrest

Takeru Kobayashi is a free man again. For those of you who missed the tragic situation on our national birthday, Kobayashi was arrested Monday for getting a bit carried away at Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, an event he attended despite not having signed a contract with Major League Eating.

↵So how did Kobayashi feel about his release? Relieved? Happy? No. Hungry, of course.

↵↵He consumed only a sandwich and some milk in jail, he said.

↵Kobayashi, wearing a black T-shirt that read “Free Kobi,” was released by a Brooklyn judge after pleading not guilty to obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct.

↵↵It is a bit of mystery how someone can be arrested for “disorderly conduct” for wanting to eat at a contest held to see how many hot dogs someone can cram into their mouth in a ten-minute period, but there are rules for everything. Here’s hoping MLE and Kobayashi can resolve their dispute so that our nation can return to the days when hot-dog eating contests were inspiring tributes to the character of our nation.
