Rinku and Dinesh Could Be Movie Stars Before They Become Major League Pitchers

↵↵Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel instantly became the top sideshow in the Pirates’ farm system and possibly all of minor league baseball when two years ago the duo won the Million Dollar Arm talent search to become the first baseball players from India to play professionally in America. Since then, the pitchers have been a great source of amusement by chronicling their experiences as they adjust to life playing Single-A ball in Florida.↵

↵↵Being the novelties they are, the two have enjoyed a few spoils of attention. They’ve gotten to meet the president at the White House when they were private guests for a Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebration. They also got to hobnob with Kal Penn, the actor of Harold and Kumar fame, who last year joined the Obama administration as Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement.↵

↵↵And now Hollywood has come a-calling. Sony Pictures has signed a deal to adapt the story of their emergence from obscurity - each never having thrown a baseball prior to three years ago - into a movie tentatively scheduled to be released next summer. Of course, don’t expect Penn to be up for either role. Rinku and Dinesh have some other big names in mind.↵

↵↵⇥“I hope some good American actor plays me,” Singh says. “You know, somebody like ‘Rambo.’ That’s the guy (Sylvester Stallone) I want.” ↵⇥↵⇥Says Patel: “I need a short guy. A guy like Tom Cruise. That would be perfect.”↵⇥

↵↵↵Yes, perfect, if only audiences are able to get over the whole brownface thing either of those actors would need to play those parts. That and Stallone kind of prides himself on his physique. Not sure how much he’d want to play a guy whose great joy in life is fleshing himself out with chicken wings and pizza.↵
