The Comedy Roast of Bob Knight Not For The Faint

As far as prominent sports figures go, there are few as ripe for pointed jokes told in their presence while others guffaw at their expense like Bob Knight. At least there are few that would be more entertaining to watch seethe with rage as they become the target of ridicule.↵↵What news, then, that those in attendance at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind. on Sept. 18 will be able to witness such a spectacle, as Knight will be roasted by former Indiana players Isiah Thomas and Steve Alford, as well as former coaching rivals Digger Phelps, Jud Heathcote and Johnny Orr.↵

↵↵Granted there’s not exactly a Don Rickles in that group, so things are likely to stay relatively cordial, but the mere sight of Isiah Thomas taking shots at Bob Knight (or even vice versa) is worth the price of admission, which, by the way, isn’t all that steep at a $50 minimum for seats. The proceeds go to benefit St. Joseph High School outside Chicago, where Isiah attended.↵

↵↵Given that Knight hasn’t exactly been a fixture in Indiana since being fired by the flagship university in 2000, it could be cathartic for the locals to see some of the air taken out of the former coach.↵

↵↵Which would be the more uncomfortable topic: allegations of beating players, or the some of the comments by the late John Wooden?↵
