Fantasy Baseball: ESPN Chat With Keith Law

Quick post with some of the better Q & A from yesterday's ESPN chat with Keith Law:

Ben (Seattle)

Hi Keith, if the M's can get Justin Smoak in a deal for Cliff Lee, is that pretty much the best scenario they could hope for? Would a Smoak/Saltalamacchia deal trump a Hicks/Ramos deal?

Klaw
(1:06 PM)

Saltalamacchia's trade value right now is somewhere between zero and negative infinity. I'd take Hicks/Ramos.

Former Braves GM John Shuerholtz was a smart man.

Tom (New York)

Can you think of a recent GM move more comical than Amaro kicking Lee to the curb for peanuts and then potentially trading something of value to reobtain him?

Klaw
(1:11 PM)

That's why it won't happen. Amaro would have less egg on his face if he lay down under a pregnant chicken.

Still amazes me that Amaro traded Lee for 3 very suspect prospects.

Doug (NY)

While Montero's triple slash line of .253/.328/.410 has been a bit disappointing, he's .330/.394/.580 over the past 23 games. Does he arguably remain the best hitting prospect in the minors?

Klaw
(1:16 PM)

There's no arguably - he is not the best hitting prospect in the minors. But he's a lot better than his cold start would indicate.

Montero is struggling this year.

Kevin S. (Oakhurst, NJ)

Who *is* the best hitting prospect in the minors, now that Stanton's up?

Klaw
(1:17 PM)

Domonic Brown.

KLaw was on Brown earlier than the rest of the prospect experts, which is why I rely on his opinion and analysis more than the rest.

Spiegel (Stevenson Ranch,CA)

Has Jerry Sands supplanted Dee Gordon as the Dodgers top hitting prospect? Sands has been a beast this year.

Klaw
(1:21 PM)

Most of what he's done has been against younger competition. I've talked to a few scouts about him - high end seems to be an average regular, low end has him as a 4A bat. Don't give up on Gordon - he was overpromoted to AA, and it may take him as much as a year to catch up. And he has great defensive value.

I hope KLaw is right on Gordon, but it makes sense. Gordon is holding his own in AA, but needs to walk more.

Dan (Atlantic City)

What kind of power potential does Domonic Brown have? I know there were some who questioned his power entering the season.

Klaw
(1:45 PM)

Thirty HR potential. Needs to keep his weight back to maximize it - could be even more than 30 in there.

Wow. Question is: when?

John Boy (Cincy)

Chris Heisey a career 4th OF? Seems like he has the tools to play everyday.

Klaw
(1:48 PM)

Everyday guy for me.

By the way, there's a "late bloomer" I buy.

Heisey could be a 2011 sleeper.
