The rigors of NFL training camp are too much for one man to conquer by himself. Without the soothing presence of a keepsake to remind a player of the comforts of home, he might just slough it all off and opt for a more relaxing line of work instead.
Nothing Calms Rian Lindell Like His Trusty Smashmouth Guitar
Fortunately for the access starved, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle offers the public a rare and poorly written look at the various knick-knacks that football players used to keep madness at bay.
For Fullback Cory McIntyre it's a bible, and his Play Station.
I’m fairly certain this pairing of objects is also prized by 90 percent of the other players in the league. As a note to the AP Stylebook sticklers out there: Bible should be capitalized, fullback should not and PlayStation is one word.
For linebacker Kawika Mitchell, it’s a collage, which his children traditionally make for him before he departs for camp every year.
Awwwww! Unless it’s a macaroni collage of daddy decapitating Chad Henne, in which case reduce the number of w’s by two.
For kicker Rian Lindell, it's an electric guitar autographed by the members of Smashmouth.
Laugh all you want, but it’s just so much more meaningful than the guitars he got autographed by the members of Fastball, Semisonic and the New Radicals. You’ll never understand unless you were an aspiring kicker in 1998.
