2010 has been a big bounce-back year for the Cubs’ Geovany Soto, who has batted .288/.401/.519 with 15 home runs over 317 trips to the plate. Unfortunately, he’s going to have to put his season on pause for a little while, as he’s off to the disabled list:
Geovany Soto Placed On DL With Right Shoulder Sprain
Cubs place C Geovany Soto on 15 day DL (shoulder) and 1B D-Lee on bereavement list & callup Welington Castrillo & Micah Hoffpauir
Soto has been bothered by a mild ligament sprain in his shoulder for a few days, and hasn’t played since Friday. In his place, the Cubs have gone with the much more defensive-minded Koyie Hill, whose season OPS is very nearly half of Soto’s.
Soto isn’t expected to miss too much time. Without him, the Cubs will likely lean on Hill, with Welington Castillo serving as the backup. Castillo, 23, has hit .254 with AAA Iowa, with a .513 slugging percentage.
