Wednesday afternoon, the Giants pulled off a minor trade to address their bench:
Cubs Trade Mike Fontenot To Giants For Evan Crawford

The Cubs are playing a series against the Giants in San Francisco, so Fontenot doesn't have far to walk. The 30 year old infielder is capable of playing second base, third base, and shortstop, and has batted .284/.332/.402 so far this season over 185 trips to the plate. For his career, he owns a .757 OPS, and he remains under three more years of team control before becoming a free agent. It's unclear exactly what role he'll fill with the Giants, but there's nothing wrong with adding more infield depth, what with Freddy Sanchez slumping, Pablo Sandoval having a rough time of it, Edgar Renteria taking his third trip of the year to the DL, and Emmanuel Burriss not looking like a Major League player.
On the Cubs’ end, Evan Crawford is a newly-turned 22 year old who’s batted .255 this year as a center fielder for A-ball Augusta. He has very good speed, but is, as you’d imagine, quite a long ways off from making an impact.
