Francisco Rodriguez Released From Police Custody After Hitting Girlfriend’s Father

First things first: a bit of a clarification. Francisco Rodriguez did not hit his father-in-law Wednesday night, but rather the father of his girlfriend.

Police now suspect that Rodriguez flew into a rage when he thought Carlos Pena, 53, had made disparaging remarks about Rodriguez’s mother, according to law enforcement sources. The victim is the father of Rodriguez’s girlfriend; he is not Rodriguez’s father-in-law, as has been previously reported.

Anyhoo, Rodriguez was arraigned Thursday morning and has since been released, with a charge of third-degree assault and an order of protection on behalf of his girlfriend and her father that will keep him from being able to see his children until family court.

That’s the legal discipline. As far as further baseball discipline is concerned:

Source: No additional discipline will be levied on K-Rod by MLB, Mets will likely send closer to anger management classes of some sort.

It doesn’t seem like it will take long for Rodriguez to return to the Mets for work out of the bullpen. This is, however, a matter that will hang over Rodriguez’s head long after his brief stint on the restricted list has come to an end.
