Francisco Rodriguez Undergoes Thumb Surgery, Ending Season

New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez underwent surgery on his right thumb ligament in Manhattan Tuesday evening, his agent Paul Kinzer confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.

Rodriguez injured himself while punching his girlfriend’s father. He will miss the rest of the season, and the Mets may look to void at least some part of his eight-figure contract.

Additionally, Rodriguez has been charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, and should now have all kinds of free time to deal with the off-field consequences of his behavior.
