Nationals outfielder Josh Willingham had a tremendous first half of the year, batting .281 through the All-Star break with a .913 OPS. However, the veteran has been dealing with knee problems for several weeks now that have taken a toll on his performance, and now it would appear that his season is coming to a premature end:
Josh Willingham Likely Facing Season-Ending Knee Surgery
Josh Willingham probably going to have season-ending surgery next week. Sad end to what started as a great year.
Willingham’s 2010 season, then, will likely end with 16 home runs and an .848 OPS. Though the 31 year old righty has been able to play through the pain, he hasn’t been able to perform up to his usual standards, and the focus now will be on getting him back and healthy in time for next season.
