The Seattle Seahawks have been granted written permission by the Chargers to discuss contract terms with San Diego holdout Vincent Jackson, Seattle general manager John Schneider said through a team spokesman Friday according to a report from Yahoo! Sports.
Chargers Grant Seahawks Permission To Negotiate With Vincent Jackson
While no significant progress has occurred to this point, two sources close to the situation said San Diego is committed to trading Jackson, who is believed to be seeking a long-term contract worth more than $9 million per season, because the team expects that he will not report at all this season.
The 6-foot-5 wide receiver caught 68 passes for the Chargers last season on his way to 1,167 yards and nine touchdowns. He also earned Pro Bowl honors for the first time in his five year career.
It seems San Diego is hesitatnt to give Jackson a long-term deal because he is facing a three-game suspension whenever he plays again because of violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He has twice been charged with driving under the influence.
SB Nation Seattle is following the story.
