Yovani Gallardo had a good game on the mound for the Brewers Monday night. He pitched six innings and allowed one run on just two hits and a walk over six innings. But he might as well have had the worst night of his career…he still probably would have gotten the win thanks to the Brewer bats in their 18-1 shellacking of the Cubs.

The Brewers sent ten batters to the plate in both the third and fourth innings, scoring five runs in each frame and putting the game out of reach early. Two Brewers (Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder) had five hits in the game, Corey Hart had four, Alcides Escobar had three, and Casey McGehee went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and reached on an error, scoring three times.
All told, the Brewers had a season high 26 hits in the game, 22 of them singles. Trevor Hoffman came to the plate in the ninth inning for the first time since 2001, and struck out to strand the bases loaded.
