Fantasy Baseball: Monday’s Roto Roundup

This article was written by Jason Hunt over at Fake Teams

Someone apparently told the Brewers that they needed to start hitting like the spots they were drafted in, and they tried to make up for it in one night against the Cubs:

Ryan Braun: 4-7, 3 runs, 2 runs batted in
Prince Fielder: 5-7, 2 runs, 5 runs batted in
Corey Hart: 4-7, 3 runs, 1 run batted in
Casey McGehee: 2-5, 3 runs, homerun, 4 runs batted in
Alcides Escobar: 3-5, 2 runs, 2 runs batted in

Oh, and Yovani Gallardo struck out 12 Cubs while allowing only 1 earned run in 6 innings yesterday. Pretty bad day overall on the North Side.

Rookie Carlos Santana looks to have suffered a very very painful injury yesterday while trying to block the plate against the Red Sox. I saw the highlights afterward, and the first thought in my mind was that his season was over. The Indians are extremely optimistic, but I doubt highly that they're going to rush him back since the team is doing so poorly anyway.

Jeremy Hellickson made his major league debut yesterday, going 7 innings and striking out 6 batters along the way. This was supposed to only be a one time start so that they could move the pitchers back with an extra day of rest, but I doubt that this is the last we've seen of Hellickson this season.

Jake Westbrook struck out 7 and allowed only 2 earned runs in his debut with the Cardinals yesterday, but did not get the win. I think it's going to be a very good fit for Westbrook in St. Louis, and could have a lot of value through the end of the season.

Adrian Beltre continues to hit everything thrown his way, as he went 2 for 3 with 2 homeruns and 5 runs batted in. He's now hitting .336 with 19 homeruns and 71 runs batted in. Someone's going to get paid this offseason.

Kevin Youkilis left the game yesterday with a jammed right thumb which looked a lot more painful in the video than it sounds. Hopefully he'll be back in the lineup shortly, as he's been having a very good season.

Coco Crisp stole his 14th base of the season, in only 33 games played due to the injuries he suffered. He has become a must own if you need steals at this point, regardless of whether or not the rest of the stats will hurt you. His pace (if he were to play a full season): .246, 15 HR, 117 runs scored, 88 runs batted in, and 68 stolen bases. He could provide top tier value over the rest of the season, but just be aware of the injury risk.

Yesterday, Brandon Morrow gives you strikeouts (9), and he takes away your ERA (5 earned in 5 1/3 innings), your WHIP (9 baserunners in that time), and maybe your sanity too. I've owned him all season in one league, and there are days I am really happy with his performance, and then there are days like today where I just don't know what to make of it. Someday he's going to be a dominant pitcher, I just don't know when.

Matt Kemp went 5 for 5 yesterday with his 18th homerun, 3 runs batted in, and a run scored. Not sure exactly what happened with Ray's Dodgers yesterda, but they had 14 hits and 4 walks but could only piece together 5 runs in the loss to the Padres.
