Loans: Stoke City Confirm Eidur Gudjohnsen, Jermaine Pennant

This announcement from FourFourTwo may have gotten the day’s biggest smile out of me. Stoke City gets two of the biggest “if we can’t get somebody else” players of recent memory:

↵

Latest done deals: Eidur Gudjohnsen and Jermaine Pennant join Stoke on season-long loans. Franco Di Santo signs for Wigan (3 years)less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

↵Eidur Gudjohnsen – if we can’t get a striker physical or fast enough to score on his own, we can get this kinda big, kinda skilled guy, hope for the best, but at least convince people he’s talented.

↵Jermaine Pennant – if we can’t get a wide player who combines speed and athleticism with something that can translate more directly into production, we can at least have speed and athleticism.

↵Now that I’ve typed that out, I’m shocked each weren’t signed by Harry Redknapp.

Iran thought they had advanced to the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout round. A less frequent aspect of the offside law disallowed the winning goal.
