Red Sox, Indians Fans Have Different Perspectives On Bench-Clearing Incident

Tempers flared between the Red Sox and the Indians on Tuesday night after a couple pitches hit Indians and a couple pitches sailed behind Red Sox. As is par for the course in circumstances like this, fans of each team saw the sequence of events differently. First, from Over The Monster:

Other than a pair of wild pitches that caught Shelley Duncan on the arm and Shin-Soo Choo (sending the latter to the ground in pain), and a leadoff homer in the third inning to Lou Marson, Beckett was on tonight.
...
The Indians took exception to those two painful plate appearances. With David Ortiz at bat in the seventh, reliever Justin Germano threw behind David Ortiz' knees. It seemed like things were done with--Beckett plunked some Indians, likely by accident, and the Indians responded with a statement pitch before getting Ortiz to ground out. But then, in the eighth, the first pitch of the inning from Jensen Lewis went behind Beltre, who took a few steps towards the mound.

Just a couple accidents is all. For the opposite view, from Let’s Go Tribe:

The whole thing started when Josh Beckett nailed first Shelley Duncan, who had collected four hits the previous evening, then Shin-Soo Choo, who had singled in the first inning. Both pitches were fastballs, not breaking balls gone astray, and Beckett was anything but wild this evening, striking out eight and walking none. I'm very confident that both pitches were thrown and located intentionally. Why Beckett would bother trying to intimidate this particular lineup is beyond me, though after he hit Choo in the third, not a single Indian would reach base the rest of the evening.
...
Pedro Martinez reveled in having his teammates fight the battles he instigated, and Beckett has memorized his playbook.

Come to think of it, it's too bad his teammates restrained him.

Baseball is not necessarily an emotional sport for the players or the fans, but games like this really have a way of bypassing the head and digging at the heart.
