UFC 122: Vitor Belfort Confirms He Will Face Yushin Okami
Guys, the fight is on to November 13 in Germany. It’ll be against tough Okami. Let’s go.
The winner of this fight will almost certainly face the winner of the rematch between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight championship.
Some fans feel that Okami had earned a title shot but was passed over in prior situations but in truth he could never stay healthy enough to put together a string of high profile wins that are needed for a title shot. A win over Belfort following a win over Mark Munoz should be enough to earn him that elusive title shot.
Belfort, meanwhile, has been in line for a title shot for almost a year now. Originally scheduled to take on Anderson Silva at the now infamous UFC 112 show, Belfort was forced to pull out due to injury and was replaced by Demian Maia. The next title shot was given to Chael Sonnen who earned a rematch with his near victory over the champion.
In the interest of not getting too rusty Vitor will not take on a very stiff test in Okami. Yushin has improved his striking dramatically, using a very solid jab and incredible footwork to compliment his wrestling game. Belfort will need to be at his best if he wants to get the title shot he has wanted for so long now.
