Gerard Houllier To Miss Aston Villa’s Match Against Stoke City

Though Gerard Houllier has been named the next manager at Aston Villa, the former Liverpool and Lyon boss will miss Villa's Monday night match, it was announced today.

During his unveiling today at Aston Villa, Houllier revealed his departure date from the French Football Federation is still to be settled. Houllier has been serving as the technical director for his home country’s federation, a position he will leave to join Villa.

Houllier anticipates his first match in charge of the team will be September 22's Carling Cup game against Blackburn. In the interim, Kevin MacDonald will continue in his caretaker role, steering Villa on Monday against Stoke City as well as against Bolton on September 18.
