This time, Dustin Johnson came through in the clutch.
BMW Championship, Final Round: Dustin Johnson Wins, Ryan Moore Soars, Tiger Woods Struggles
Johnson made a birdie on the 17th hole to take a one-shot lead and parred the 18th to claim his fourth PGA Tour victory at the BMW Championship. Johnson’s 2-under 69 on Sunday left him at 9-under for the tournament, one shot better than Paul Casey.
Ryan Moore, Johnson’s playing partner, struggled on Sunday, shooting 2-over 73, but he finished three shots back and tied for third, which vaults him to the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings and earns him all the perks of automatic major qualification and Players Championship eligibility that go with it.
FedEx Cup points leader Matt Kuchar also finished at 6-under and tied for third. He will take a large lead to the Tour Championship next week.
Tiger Woods will not be joining Kuchar. Woods shot a 1-under 70 and finished tied for 15th, not high enough to crack the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings. He will miss a tournament because he is not eligible for it for the first time in his professional career.
