Shannon Sharpe was among the best tight ends the NFL has ever seen and has had a successful post-football career as a CBS analyst after retiring in 2003.
Shannon Sharpe Accused Of Sexual Assault, Takes Leave Of Absence From CBS
Now his broadcasting career is in jeopardy after a woman named Michele Bundy has accused him of sexual assault, the Denver Post reports.
Atlanta’s Fulton County Superior Court has granted a temporary restraining order against Sharpe following a petition filed by Michele Bundy under the category of “family violence.”
Bundy alleged in her petition that Sharpe threatened her life and forced her into sex. A protection order hearing has been set for Monday.
Sharpe hasn’t commented on the situation other than saying in a statement,“I have decided to step aside from the NFL Today (show) until this matter is resolved.” CBS reportedly accepted his decision to take a leave of absence.
He’s been eligible for the Hall of Fame and, as one of the best tight ends in NFL history, many expect him to eventually. Off-the-field situations are not supposed to be taken into account when Hall of Fame voters determine who’s in and who’s out so in theory this won’t affect his chances.
