The most interesting offshoot from the Vincent Jackson suspension ruling by the NFL was that it will likely expedite a trade of the restive wide receiver. While the Seattle Seahawks were at one point the only team granted permission by Jackson’s agents to discuss a possible trade, a deal could not be worked out and Jackson has remained in holdout limbo since the NFL season began last week.
Vikings And Redskins Said To Be Pursuing Trade For Vincent Jackson
Now that the Chargers have greater incentive to trade Jackson before Sept. 22 because of a ruling that states his suspension will be reduced from six games to four if he is move by that date. Though the Vikings initially balked at Jackson’s asking price in August, Minnesota remains the presumptive favorite among possible destinations for the Pro Bowl wideout.
A report from The Washington Post stated on Thursday that head coach Mike Shanahan said the team wouldn’t rule out acquiring the veteran receiver. Both destinations make sense given their respective needs at the receiver position. While new Redskins GM Bruce Allen and Chargers GM A.J. Smith are said to be close, the Redskins have not as yet been included among the teams granted permission to discussion a long-term contract. The Seahawks, Rams and Vikings are the only teams know to have received permission.
