6'10 righty Chris Young has made one start for the Padres this season, in their second game. He went six innings against the Diamondbacks, allowing zero runs, and then promptly went on the disabled list with a shoulder strain that kept him out of action for nearly the entire year. But now there's good news. Tentative good news, but good news nonetheless: Chris Young is returning to the Padres' rotation this coming weekend:
Chris Young To Return To Padres Rotation On Saturday
Padres manager Bud Black says right-hander Chris Young is scheduled to start Saturday night at St. Louis.
The 6-foot-10 Young made one start this season before going on the disabled list April 12 with a strained right shoulder. Young is coming off three rehab starts in the minor leagues.
Young appeared in one game for AA San Antonio and two games for AAA Portland, throwing seven total innings. He’ll be on a pitch count on Saturday, as the Padres won’t want to push him too hard. If he’s able to show something, though, and - more importantly - if he’s able to keep his body together, he could make himself a critical piece down the stretch.
As of now, it looks like Young will take Cory Luebke's spot in the rotation. Read Gaslamp Ball for more on the subject, where reactions are mixed.
