The Houston Texans took the opening possession of overtime down to the Washington Redskins’ 36-yard line before the drive stalled. Instead of attempting a 53-yard Neil Rackers field goal for the win, Kubiak decided to punt. A touchback later, the Redskins had new life.

↵Donovan McNabb, aided by a Texans personal foul, then drove the Redskins 46 yards to position young kicker Graham Gano for a 52-yard game-winning field goal. Which Gano pumped right down the middle. Kubiak, however, snuck a timeout in prior to the kick, negating the winning points. Gano then missed the re-kick by a country mile.
↵Kubiak is facing a playoffs-or-bust year in his fifth year with the Texans. He’s been on the hot seat for the better part of three years. Say what you will about his decisions, but don’t claim that he’s not willing to gamble - there’s a lot more on the line than the outcome of a football game in D.C.
