Steelers QB Dennis Dixon expressed optimism that he would be available for next Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay prior to undergoing an MRI on his injured knee on Monday. Too bad for him, then, that the tests showed that Dixon suffered a torn lateral meniscus during the Steelers 19-11 win over the Titans on Sunday, which will likely force Dixon to miss about three weeks of action.

Dixon left the game in the second half after scrambling to pick up yardage at the end of a Steelers’ field goal drive. Charlie Batch finished the game for Pittsburgh, which finished with only 43 yards passing.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dixon will seek a second opinion, though he is likely to have to undergo arthroscopic surgery. If Dixon cannot go, head coach Mike Tomlin will have to choose between Batch and Byron Leftwich, who was expected to be the Steelers opening week starter until he suffered an injury in the Steelers preseason finale.
