Joe Mauer Day-To-Day With Jammed Left Knee

Twins catcher Joe Mauer left Sunday's game after tweaking his left knee during a swing. Mauer came away day-to-day and, sure enough, he is not in Minnesota's Monday lineup.

With the Twins currently in first place by ten games, they can afford to treat Mauer ever so gingerly, and as such there’s no reason at all for them to try to hurry him back. There is some degree of concern, as Mauer has previously torn the meniscus in his left knee several years ago, but this injury doesn’t appear to be serious. Mauer will simply ice, sit out, and hope to be back to full strength in plenty of time for the playoffs.

Mauer’s batted .331 on the year, with a .407 OBP and 74 RBI. The Twins will lean on backstops Jose Morales and Drew Butera for the time being. Read more on Mauer and the Twins at Twinkie Town.
