Angels shortstop Erick Aybar hasn't played in a game since September 15th. He was a late scratch for the game on the 16th with what was called a "left leg strain," but doctors soon thereafter began to suspect a sports hernia, and now Aybar's going to be shut down for the rest of the season.
Erick Aybar To Miss Rest Of Season With Probable Hernia
Manager Mike Scioscia confirmed Monday what had been suspected for several days, that shortstop Erick Aybar has been shut down for the final two weeks of the season because of a suspected sports hernia in his left groin.
Aybar will meet with the same doctor that performed surgery on Torii Hunter's similar injury a year ago. If Aybar requires surgery, he should have little trouble recovering from the minor procedure in a short amount of time.
Aybar's season ends with a .254/.306/.333 batting line - a significant fall from his .312/.353/.423 2009. In his absence, look for Brandon Wood to pick up a lot of at bats. Check out more over at Halos Heaven.
