Lions Haven’t Ruled Out QB Matthew Stafford For Week 3

After Matthew Stafford’s shoulder injury in Week 1 of the NFL season, reports suggested he could be out 2-6 weeks. The Lions haven’t confirmed any of that information but head coach Jim Schwartz said on Wednesday that Stafford hasn’t been ruled out for week three....yet.

Per 1500 ESPN, Schwartz said the Lions are “open-minded” when it comes to Stafford’s status for Sunday.

“It just really depends on how he’s feeling, and if he’s feeling good and throwing well, can make all the throws, then we make that decision, and if he’s not, then we hold him back. But it’ll be judged on him and how he’s feeling -- not an artificial timetable that we set before we even knew where we were going with it.”

It seems unlikely he’ll get the start after just two weeks. Perhaps shooting for week four would be best for the Lions. Stafford is going to be in Detroit for a long time so the risk isn’t worth it.
