Padres Go For Their Sixth-Straight Win Against Dodgers

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Miguel Tejada homered during a three-run third inning to back Tim Stauffer's solid performance on the mound, as the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1, in the second test of a three- game series.

Tejada's homer was the 300th of his career. The Padres, who have won the first two games of this series, moved a half-game ahead of the Giants and into first place in the NL West standings. San Francisco lost to the Cubs on Wednesday.

Stauffer (5-4) gave up one run on three hits over six innings to pick up the win. He also fanned five batters and walked two. Heath Bell recorded his career-high 43rd save.

A.J. Ellis drove in the lone run for the Dodgers, who have lost six straight games to San Diego. Ted Lilly (8-12) went seven frames in the start, allowing three runs on eight hits to lose his fourth consecutive decision. The left- hander also struck out eight and walked one.

LA had just three hits, none past the third inning.

The Dodgers scored their only run in the second. Matt Kemp doubled, advanced to third on a fly out, and scored when Ellis grounded into a fielder's choice.

Chase Headley singled to begin the top of the third and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. David Eckstein reached base on an infield single, and first baseman James Loney's throwing error allowed a run to score. Tejada followed with a two-run homer to left to make it 3-1.

The Padres failed to score after loading the bases in the fourth.

Luke Gregerson tossed a perfect seventh, Mike Adams pitched a scoreless eighth, and Bell worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to secure the victory.
