Oakland A's closer Andrew Bailey hasn't pitched since September 17th, and was recently shut down for the year with elbow soreness. That's never a good thing for any pitcher, but after an examination, there's some good news on the Bailey front:
Closer Andrew Bailey To Have Elbow Cleaned Out
Bailey's ligament is sound. Dr. Andrew will do the elbow cleanup. This means Bailey is out for the season. #Athletics
Bailey will indeed undergo a surgical procedure to clean some things up, but his UCL - the ligament that, when it snaps, requires Tommy John surgery - is fine, and all in all this is a minor operation. Bailey should be fine and ready to go well in advance of spring training 2011.
Bailey's season ends with 25 saves and a 1.47 ERA that topped his standout rookie mark of 1.84. Read more on Bailey and the A's over at AAthletics Nation.
