The Chicago Bears are undefeated after rattling off three straight victories to open the 2010 NFL regular season. Led by an explosive offense featuring a rejuvenated Jay Cutler (870 passing yards, six touchdowns), a hard-hitting defense and explosive special teams units, the Bears are alone in first place in the very competitive NFC North.
NFL Predictions For The Unbeaten Teams: Chicago Bears
The Bears may very well be the most surprising 3-0 team in the NFL. Featuring a very good defense energized by the addition of defensive end Julius Peppers, as well as an offense that has seen the Dr. Jekyll side of Cutler through three games, the Bears have put up very impressive wins in back-to-back games against Dallas and Green Bay. In a conference that has yet to produce an elite-looking team, it's tough to say that Chicago doesn't have a legitimate shot at a deep playoff run this year. The NFC North is still an excellent division, but beating Green Bay is a good start. How good the Bears can be will depend on how quickly and efficiently the Mike Martz offense can come together behind Cutler. The signs are very good thus far, but Cutler has gotten away with some throws in three close victories.
Tough Stretch: Weeks 14 through 17, where the Bears close the season with games against the Patriots, Vikings, Jets and Packers. Ouch.
Gimme Wins: Week 6 vs. SEA, Week 9 at BUF (in Toronto)
Achilles Heel: They’ve got two - Cutler needs to continue to avoid the big mistake if he can’t just not make them to begin with, and it’d help if he got better protection from his shaky offensive line. Their schedule, while not overly difficult, still features a lot of tough teams with some serious talent.
Prediction: If they can’t take advantage of their early lead and win the NFC North, this still looks like a playoff team with the defense and explosive playmakers to make a deep run in January.
