Behind the league's most productive rushing attack and a surprisingly effective defense, the Kansas City Chiefs have raced out to an early two-game lead in the AFC West. The Chiefs have ingredients in place to make a serious run at a division title, even after San Diego completes its annual "oh crap, we should start playing football" quest. This team, while a legitimate playoff contender, is not one of the league's elite teams at the moment. Matt Cassel continues to play inconsistent football, and in a quarterback-driven league where elite teams have elite passing offenses, the Chiefs don't play defense well enough to make up for his shortcomings. They also haven't played a tough opponent in hostile territory yet, having beaten the perennially slow-starting Chargers and two of the league's worst teams in Cleveland and San Francisco.
NFL Predictions For The Unbeaten Teams: Kansas City Chiefs
Tough Stretch: Weeks 5 and 6, with back-to-back road games against Indianapolis and a very good Houston squad.
Gimme Wins: Week 7 vs. JAC, Week 8 vs. BUF
Achilles Heel: Cassel. His inaccuracy and questionable decision-making is holding back a very promising offense that features a ton of talent at the skill positions.
Prediction: The Chiefs have enough going for them to win the AFC West, and host what would be a spine-tingling playoff game at Arrowhead. They aren’t serious contenders, however.
