For the New York Yankees, August was one long battle with the Tampa Bay Rays for control of the AL East. Having Alex Rodriguez might tip the tussle in the Yankees’ favor in September. ESPN New York’s Andrew Marchand reports that Rodriguez has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and will start and bat cleanup for today’s game against Toronto.
Alex Rodriguez Activated From Disabled List, In Lineup Against Toronto
This has been Rodriguez’ worst year since 1997, with his on-base percentage hovering at .333 and his slugging percentage at .485, both his lowest marks in a season with more than 110 games played. But he’s still a major upgrade over what the Yankees were sending out every day.
Rodriguez’ return will send Eduardo Nunez back to the bench. Nunez collected 12 hits, only two for extra bases, hitting in Rodriguez’ stead.
