Turkish Team Claims It Gave $100,000 To Top Kentucky Recruit

The general manager of a professional basketball team in Turkey is claiming that his team paid Enes Kanter, considered the best recruit in Kentucky’s top-ranked recruiting class, more than $100,000 in cash and other benefits over the course of three years.

Nedim Karakas, the general manager of Fenerbahce Ulker, stated that the team has submitted banking and housing records to the NCAA indicating benefits that could rule Kanter ineligible to play. The records, Karakas claim, indicate that the team provided housing and money for Kanter and his family for three years.

Though Kanter never entered into an official contract with the Turkish club, the benefits, if true, could prove disastrous to his ability to play in the NCAA. In April, Kentucky coach John Calipari told The Sporting News in April that Kanter never received any money from the club.
